Prophetic Dua for Bodily Pain & Physical Discomfort (Bismillah 3x)

✓ E-E-A-T Verified·Last Updated: November 1, 2026·Reviewed by Sheikh Sayed Shah Qadri
Summary:

When suffering physical bodily pain, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ instructed Uthman ibn Abi al-As (RA) to place his right hand on the pain, say 'Bismillāh' 3 times, and recite 'A'ūdhu billāhi wa qudratihī min sharri mā ajidu wa uḥādhir' 7 times (Sahih Muslim 2202). Uthman reported immediate relief.

Recitation Protocol (11x Durood Awwal & Aakhir):It is traditional practice to recite 11 times Durood Shareef (Salawat) before and after supplications. Sayyiduna Umar (RA) noted that supplication is suspended between heaven and earth until blessings are sent upon the Prophet ﷺ (Jami’ at-Tirmidhi 486).
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ (ثَلَاثًا) ، أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ وَأُحَاذِرُ (سَبْعًا)
Bismillāh (3x), A'ūdhu billāhi wa qudratihī min sharri mā ajidu wa uḥādhir (7x).
“In the Name of Allah (3x), I seek refuge in Allah and in His Power from the evil of what I feel and what I fear (7x). (Sahih Muslim 2202)”
Sahih Muslim 2202, Jami' at-Tirmidhi 2080
