What is Authentic Ruqyah Shariah?
Ruqyah Shariah is the spiritual healing modality prescribed by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It relies entirely on the power of Allah's words (The Quran) and His names/attributes. Unlike superstitious practices, authentic Ruqyah connects the patient directly to the Creator.
- Surah Al-Isra, 17:82
Conditions for Validity
For Ruqyah to be considered Halal (permissible), Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani states it must satisfy three conditions:
- It must be with the Speech of Allah (Quran), His names, or attributes.
- It must be in the Arabic language or what is known to be its meaning.
- The belief must be that the Ruqyah itself has no effect, but the cure is from Allah alone.
Signs and Symptoms of Spiritual Afflictions
Recognizing the signs of sihr or evil eye is the first step toward healing. While medical causes should always be ruled out first, spiritual ailments often present unique patterns.

- Chronic fatigue not cured by rest.
- Recurring nightmares (snakes, falling, chasing).
- Unexplained bruises on the body.
- Sleep paralysis or insomnia.
- Heaviness in the shoulders or head.
Mental & Emotional
- Sudden aversion to prayer or Quran.
- Extreme irritability or anger outbursts.
- Brain fog and inability to concentrate.

Types of Spiritual Afflictions
Islamic theology categorizes spiritual ailments into three main types. Understanding these helps in selecting the right Quranic healing method.
1. Ayn & Hasad (Evil Eye & Envy)
Caused by a look of admiration or jealousy without blessing Allah. It is one of the most common afflictions.
Remedy: Reciting Surah Al-Falaq, An-Nas, and performing Ghusl (washing).
2. Sihr (Black Magic)
Dark arts involving Jinn to cause separation, illness, or failure. Mentioned in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:102).
Remedy: Intense Ruqyah, consuming Ajwa dates, and destroying the charm if found.
3. Jinn Possession (Mass)
Direct interference of a Jinn in a human body, often causing seizures, voice changes, or supernatural strength.
Remedy: Professional Ruqyah sessions and strict adherence to Adhkar.
How to Perform Self-Ruqyah
You do not always need a Raqi (healer). Self-Ruqyah is the preferred method as it builds your own Tawakkul (reliance) on Allah.
- Preparation: Perform fresh Wudu. Sit in a clean place facing the Qibla. Have water or olive oil ready if desired.
- Intention (Niyyah): Make a sincere intention in your heart that you are reciting for healing and protection from Allah.
- Opening: Seek refuge in Allah (A'udhu billahi min ash-shaytani'r-rajim) and recite Surah Al-Fatihah.
- Core Recitation: Recite Ayat al-Kursi, Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah An-Nas. Repeat these 3, 7, or 11 times with focus.
- Blow & Wipe: After reciting, blow gently into your cupped hands (with a little spittle) and wipe over your face and body as far as you can reach.
- Consumables: You can also blow onto water (to drink) or olive oil (to massage painful areas).
Finding Qualified Practitioners & Resources
If self-ruqyah is not yielding results for severe cases, seeking a qualified Raqi is permitted. However, verify their authenticity. They should never ask for your mother's name or use unclear talismans.
